I'm excited to introduce a new regular feature on my Substack: coverage of China’s inflation. This report is modeled on similar reports for the U.S., Switzerland, Japan, and the UK. However, given China's pivotal role in global manufacturing, I'll also incorporate producer price data, which is critical for understanding global inflationary pressures.
The latest two inflation reports are:
China January 25 CPI Inflation Report
China December 24 CPI Inflation Report
Beyond inflation, I plan to discuss China's role in the global economy and the implications of trade tensions.
In terms of analytical background, I will draw upon my research from past years.
The research agenda with Luca Fornaro and Martin Wolf on the interaction between capital flows and growth—a theme that remains central to understanding China’s position in the global financial system and the resulting trade imbalances.
The work on the Dollar’s Imperial Circle (with Ozge Akinci, Jon Turek, and Serra Pelin) provides a structure to study the role of the dollar in an asymmetric international monetary system.
This past blog “The Global Financial Resource Curse” provides a more detailed summary of this research background. On my research homepage, you can find the research articles.
Stay tuned for insights into China’s inflation, its policies, and its role in shaping the global economy.
